Discovering new tools!

Determining the influence of technology in our life is a really hard task. Today, in this class we have been discussing the matter of how this development has been increasing day to day. We all remember how big and limited was our first mobile phone: the only those bricks were able to do was calling and sending short messages. However, people were fascinated because for the very first time they could phone someone without staying in their home. Now, it is completely different: all we can imagine can be done with our phones such as taking pictures, filming videos, watching TV, using GPS, etc. So, if we compare those ones with the devices we do have now, we realize how technology has changed over the last years.

After finishing the technology advances debate, we started designing our new Personal Learning Environment (PLE) and then we created our new Symbaloo account, a personal startpage where we can easily navigate the web and compile all our favorite sites in one visual interface (you can take a glance of mine in Task 1).

In addition, we learned that not every picture uploaded to the net is free of copywriting rights, even those from Google images. For checking if a picture is free or not you have to go to Google images search, then click on “Tools” > “Usage rights” and then select the option you may need (e.g. “Labeled for reuse”).

Our teachers share with us other websites such as Pinterest and Pixabay (a website with a lot of high-quality public domain photos, illustrations, vector graphics and film footage). So to practice, this new tool was the first website button I added to my Symbaloo account.

Afterwards, we discovered SAMR (Substitution, Argumentation, Modification, and Redefinition), a model created to help educators to introduce technology into teaching and learning. Besides, we were talking about Bloom’s taxonomy, a system used to classify educational learning objectives into six levels of complexity and specificity (knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) and the Digital Competence Framework. It includes 21 competencies to use digital technologies in order to achieve goals in work, learning, leisure, participation in society, etc.

To conclude our lesson, we discovered some applications to elaborate videos such as Powtoon, Lenso create and Adobe Sparks. Please, have a look at my Task 2 if you want to see how does these video tool work.

Thank you for reading!

See you next week!

Isabel
